Having got soaked again today collecting my veg box, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to buy one.

Maynard Pecson bounced back remarkably from a dismal showing in the national age group duathlon championships two weeks back by landing on top of the heap in the duathlon event of Singapore T100 Triathlon.

Franklin Yee, Pecson’s erstwhile tormentor, trailed in 2nd overall with Robin Banados of Go For Gold completing the podium finish.

Top Filipina duathlete Merry Joy Trupa was dominant from start to finish among the females as she claimed 1st place overall and the gold medal in the female 20-24 age category.

Pia in Action (PIA) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sponsored the Team Philippines.

Pecson stowed the gold in the 25-29 bracket with Yee adding another gold in 20-24 category.

Pecson covered the 6K run/32k bike/3K grind in 1 hour 26 minutes and 28 seconds (splits: 21:26/ 51:45/11:53).

Yee checked in at 1:29:09 and Cebuano Banados (, also backed by Go-for-Gold program of Jeremy Go, 1:34:53).

I think that on the recumbent bike with the support at your back your feet can push on the pedals with far more force than you can on an upright bike, where the force on the pedals is limited to your weight. More force = better hill climbing.

I've never really lusted after a recumbent bike, but there's Nemesis Hill in St. Jacobs that this bike would easily defeat.

A3. In the coldest temperatures, I put a plastic bag between my sock and shoe. If the temperature is that low, I am already wearing cycling overshoes.

Pedal type makes no difference. It works with either, although overshoes are better suited to clipless pedals.

Seeeing that the shitheads who run New Jersey have passed a law requiring a license and registration to ride ANY e-bike anywhere in the state.

From my perspective, this is a total ban, and the answer is total defiance and zero compliance.

Two approaches exist:

For communities: pack up, ride in defiance like the ATV and dirt bike kids to in DC. Force the cops to "dogfight" like fighter pilots if they want to stop anyone. The whole pack defends itself from cops, relying on bike handling and superior skills plus the effects of urban traffic blocking police cars and heavy motorcycles from pursuing.

When I am in DC, I always cheer for these kids when I see them. They push the frontline of vehicle licensing and registration back from us bikers and e-bikers, so I consider them allied troops deployed further foreward than myself.

Years ago I saw a video of a DC bike or motorcycle cop trying to jump from his machine onto one of these riders, only to "faceplant" flat on the pavement after missing his jump. The kids rode off laughing, asking no quarter and giving none.

For individuals:

disguise a homemade E-bike as a touring bike. Panniers hide the batteries and a rear motor is concealed behind a big disc brake on one side and a large big cog on the other side.

It is even possible (this is been done to cheat in bike racing) to hide a motor in the seat tube driving the bottom bracket spindle through a bevel gear.

Some of the large motors used in radio controlled model aircraft could work well for this, and fit into the seat tube or into a modified down tube of something like an old Cannondale frame.

If you want a throttle, disguise it as a bell. If you want a display, disguise it as a bike computer.

Batteries and controllers go into panniers, a touring bike will be ignored by the local cop thugs. You are building a stealth bike, designed to penetrate hostile territory and defeat New Jersey's policing. Take the panniers in when you go inside, leave no evidence for city/county thugs with trucks stealing locked bikes if it comes to that. Also consider using the "skunk lock" a bike lock that releases an incredibly foul odorant if cut or a homemade version therof.

In both cases: FUCK the police, FUCK 12, FUCK licensing, and FUCK registration! Fuck the New Jersey statehouse and the lobbyists they rode in on while we are at it. They can all breathe car exhaust.

I speak as one who operated the unlicensed pirate radio station WSQT Guerilla Radio for almost ten years in DC.

This is rather like pirate radio in fact: if you don't have a broadcast license the FCC cannot collect those huge fines for broadcasting without a license. An estimated 90% of Federal fines BTW are never paid.

Beginning in one year when the "grace period" expires, the penalty for defying this will be a $50 ticket-but cops might try arresting riders who have a suspended driver's license instead of the NO license at all that is optimum for any form of illegal bike riding. ANY traffic stop for ANY offense is also by definition an armed confrontation as cops carry guns and other weapons.

Refusing the pay the ticket if you neither have nor want a drivers license should be safe, but the stops themselves could be highly dangerous. Compliant riders become trackable by Flock etc, a further hazard. Some folks might be forced to move out of New Jersey over this one.

It’s not the taking part, it’s the watching on TV that counts.

I love sport. I always have. Since childhood, I’ve competed at soccer, running, baseball, tennis and pickleball. I’ve also played a lot golf, though not competitively. I’m no longer allowed to do my twice weekly, intense circuit sessions in the gym, but do still work out at home on the treadmill and bike every day.

(Told you I love sport!)

So when the Olympics comes around, I’m in heaven. I sort of leave this world for a couple of weeks and immerse myself in all the sports on offer.

Obviously, with athletics being my ‘best’ sport, I watch everything from the track and field. But I enjoy just as much watching sports that aren’t normally screened into our homes. Handball, for instance. That’s a wonderful sport – so fast.

Netball, I love. And gymnastics – what these talented athletes do just melts my brain!

Cycling too, both road and track.

But this isn’t making for very interesting reading, is it? Me banging on, creating a simple list of sports.

So what I thought I’d do, is tag on Chapter #34 from my latest book, ‘A Space Hopper Killed My Hamster … amusing tales of growing up in the ’60s & ’70s.’ It’s a three-minute, light-hearted read from here – and it is relevant to the Olympics.

I Could’ve Been a Contender.

Why does ‘Team GB’ often fail to fulfil its potential when it comes to The Olympic Games? I’ll tell you why. (Uh oh … rant, incoming!)

The Paris Olympic Games of 2024 offered competitors the chance of winning medals in thirty-two sports, though let’s not get too bogged down in debating whether Breaking (break dancing) should be considered a sport. This is an increase of nine events from The Games of the ’70s, with the re-admission of golf and tennis in recent times somewhat diluting the traditional Corinthian spirit by allowing the participation of many mega rich, full-time, sportsmen and women.

Nowadays there is far more emphasis on the professionalism of the competitors.

Fifty-plus years ago, in the days before money became such an open and obvious part of The Olympics, there was, theoretically at least, hope for all of us seeking sporting immortality. One significant hurdle (sorry) lay in our path and prevented our dreams becoming reality. Certainly, in this part of the world.

You see, I grew up in the West of Scotland, around Glasgow. We love our sport in this city … but when I say ‘sport’ that historically meant just football. As a youngster, I played. I watched. I dreamed.

I had a couple of friends who played basketball and a couple of big nutters I knew didn’t mind having their ears turned ‘cauliflower’ and noses flattened through playing rugby. But that wasn’t an Olympic recognised sport in ’72 and ’76.

I was considered a bit eccentric when, at the age of thirteen, in addition to playing football, I also took up athletics (running.) Some girls I was friendly with also took to the track and cross-country, two of them going on to achieve international honours.

But that was it: football, basketball, athletics.

Of the twenty-three sports competed for at The Olympic Games during The Seventies, my friends and I had access to THREE!

Where was the Equestrian centre for us to try out at Dressage, for instance?

Rowing? Sailing? Canoeing?  We’d had it drummed into us all our young lives that if we so much as set foot anywhere near the local canal, we’d be grounded, and pocket-money would be withheld for a month.

Handball? What the **** was handball?

Granted, living in Glasgow, access to Fencing and Shooting, in an unofficial capacity, may have been possible … but you take my point.

At Munich in 1972, Great Britain & Northern Ireland placed twelfth overall, winning 18 medals (4 Gold, 5 Silver and 9 Bronze.) In Montreal, four years later, we dropped to thirteenth in the medal table, scoring only 13 in total (3 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze.)

When you consider the Soviet Union claimed 125 and 99 medals in the respective Games, closely followed by East Germany and USA, it’s not great, is it? It’s true, USSR and the Eastern bloc countries adopted an odd interpretation of the word ’amateur,’ but that’s not necessarily the reason we performed so poorly in comparison.

No, it’s as I alluded to earlier – a lack of training facilities. That, and the sports being considered ‘minority interests’ by the powers that were.

To become the best at any sport, we now appreciate a sportsperson must start young. Back in ’72 and ’76 we simply didn’t have the opportunity to become good at the Olympic-recognised sports.

But we were good at Shove Ha’penny; at Marbles; at Skipping; at Chinese Ropes, and Hopscotch. We were brilliant at British Bulldogs (why is Kabaddi not an Olympic sport?) Dodge Ball and even Hide & Seek.

I can only think the Olympic Association missed a trick there.

Oh, how I’d have loved the opportunity to compete for a gold medal in Ring! Bang! Scoosh!

I could have been a contender, you know.

33rd Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) All Set For May 2 And 3

Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT)—Southeast Asia’s oldest and longest running standard distance race—rolls on to its 33rd year at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone May 2 and 3.

This edition gains added significance as on top of being billed as 2026 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup it debuts as Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Subic Bay.

Considered one of Asia’s 10 best races, SuBIT has continued to demonstrate the strong partnership between Triathlon Philippines presided by Tom Carrasco, Asia Triathlon Senior Vice President, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) under Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño.

Philippine Sports Commission, NTT, Gatorade (official hydration partner), Western Guaranty Corporation, C-Vitt and Subic Bay Travelers Hotel (official race hotel) back up SuBIT.

More than a hundred elite athletes coming from at least 20 countries are expected to not only vie for honors but also scramble for World Triathlon and Asia Triathlon ranking points.

Japan, last year through Takuto Oshima (1:50:25) and Manami Hayashi (2:04:58) regained it’s dominance it last held in 2002 with Dayshaun Ramos (1:54:03, 14th) and Raven Alcoseba 2:14:16, 11th) emerging as top Filipinos.

The usual fare of fast, action-packed racing across all levels: draft-legal sprint races for Elite and Junior Elite athletes, alongside Super Trikids (STK), Youth Super Sprint, and Sprint and Standard are on offer.

Elite & Junior Elite Races (AM); STK, Youth & Age Group Briefing (PM) are slated May 2 followed by STK, Youth & Age Group race day. Athletes and Coaches briefing on May 1 usher the races.

Velo Orange Neutrino – New Bike Day

Go small, go simple, go now. Wise words spoken by a sailor of the old days. Still, it applies to everything we do in this life. All told we have been living in tiny Airbnb’s almost exclusively for 4 years. We did have an 8 month stint in a hotel to be close to the boat but it was just too simple for us.

A centimeter here, a few degrees there… this bike is fitting better and better every day. Zero would be the number of complaints I have at this point. None of this needed to be done but that’s how I get to know the workings of each new bike. Unlike the Brompton all parts of the Neutrino are standard making this a super easy bike to work on. Now I need to build an apocalypse kit just in case.

Velo Orange Neutrino – New Bike Day

Go small, go simple, go now. Wise words spoken by a sailor of the old days. Still, it applies to everything we do in this life. All told we have been living in tiny Airbnb’s almost exclusively for 4 years. We did have an 8 month stint in a hotel to be close to the boat but it was just too simple for us.

A centimeter here, a few degrees there… this bike is fitting better and better every day. Zero would be the number of complaints I have at this point. I should have a Frame bag made but I just can’t commit to it. Bar bags, saddle bags, feed bags, who knows. I always dive in on day one but with this little Kermie bike I just keep slowing down. The frogs awaking is always the first signal of spring. On my first ride with the new Neutrino they sang their song all along my first creekside ramble. Maybe nature has named her for me.

I ride every day now, but first I walk. There is something about walking my dog that is so good for the soul. She sniffs and explores every inch of the village like it was her first time. 33rd Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) All Set For May 2 And 3

Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT)—Southeast Asia’s oldest and longest running standard distance race—rolls on to its 33rd year at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone May 2 and 3.

This edition gains added significance as on top of being billed as 2026 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup it debuts as Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Subic Bay.

Considered one of Asia’s 10 best races, SuBIT has continued to demonstrate the strong partnership between Triathlon Philippines presided by Tom Carrasco, Asia Triathlon Senior Vice President, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) under Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño.

Philippine Sports Commission, NTT, Gatorade (official hydration partner), Western Guaranty Corporation, C-Vitt and Subic Bay Travelers Hotel (official race hotel) back up SuBIT.

More than a hundred elite athletes coming from at least 20 countries are expected to not only vie for honors but also scramble for World Triathlon and Asia Triathlon ranking points.

Japan, last year through Takuto Oshima (1:50:25) and Manami Hayashi (2:04:58) regained it’s dominance it last held in 2002 with Dayshaun Ramos (1:54:03, 14th) and Raven Alcoseba 2:14:16, 11th) emerging as top Filipinos.

It’s not the taking part, it’s the watching on TV that counts.

I love sport. I always have. Since childhood, I’ve competed at soccer, running, baseball, tennis and pickleball. I’ve also played a lot golf, though not competitively. I’m no longer allowed to do my twice weekly, intense circuit sessions in the gym, but do still work out at home on the treadmill and bike every day.

(Told you I love sport!)

So when the Olympics comes around, I’m in heaven. I sort of leave this world for a couple of weeks and immerse myself in all the sports on offer.

Obviously, with athletics being my ‘best’ sport, I watch everything from the track and field. But I enjoy just as much watching sports that aren’t normally screened into our homes. Handball, for instance. That’s a wonderful sport – so fast.

Netball, I love. And gymnastics – what these talented athletes do just melts my brain!

Cycling too, both road and track.

But this isn’t making for very interesting reading, is it? Me banging on, creating a simple list of sports.

So what I thought I’d do, is tag on Chapter #34 from my latest book, ‘A Space Hopper Killed My Hamster … amusing tales of growing up in the ’60s & ’70s.’ It’s a three-minute, light-hearted read from here – and it is relevant to the Olympics.

I Could’ve Been a Contender.

Why does ‘Team GB’ often fail to fulfil its potential when it comes to The Olympic Games? I’ll tell you why. (Uh oh … rant, incoming!)

The Paris Olympic Games of 2024 offered competitors the chance of winning medals in thirty-two sports, though let’s not get too bogged down in debating whether Breaking (break dancing) should be considered a sport. This is an increase of nine events from The Games of the ’70s, with the re-admission of golf and tennis in recent times somewhat diluting the traditional Corinthian spirit by allowing the participation of many mega rich, full-time, sportsmen and women.

Nowadays there is far more emphasis on the professionalism of the competitors.

Fifty-plus years ago, in the days before money became such an open and obvious part of The Olympics, there was, theoretically at least, hope for all of us seeking sporting immortality. One significant hurdle (sorry) lay in our path and prevented our dreams becoming reality. Certainly, in this part of the world.

You see, I grew up in the West of Scotland, around Glasgow. We love our sport in this city … but when I say ‘sport’ that historically meant just football. As a youngster, I played. I watched. I dreamed.

I had a couple of friends who played basketball and a couple of big nutters I knew didn’t mind having their ears turned ‘cauliflower’ and noses flattened through playing rugby. But that wasn’t an Olympic recognised sport in ’72 and ’76.

I was considered a bit eccentric when, at the age of thirteen, in addition to playing football, I also took up athletics (running.) Some girls I was friendly with also took to the track and cross-country, two of them going on to achieve international honours.

But that was it: football, basketball, athletics.

Of the twenty-three sports competed for at The Olympic Games during The Seventies, my friends and I had access to THREE!

Where was the Equestrian centre for us to try out at Dressage, for instance?

Rowing? Sailing? Canoeing?  We’d had it drummed into us all our young lives that if we so much as set foot anywhere near the local canal, we’d be grounded, and pocket-money would be withheld for a month.

Handball? What the **** was handball?

Granted, living in Glasgow, access to Fencing and Shooting, in an unofficial capacity, may have been possible … but you take my point.

At Munich in 1972, Great Britain & Northern Ireland placed twelfth overall, winning 18 medals (4 Gold, 5 Silver and 9 Bronze.) In Montreal, four years later, we dropped to thirteenth in the medal table, scoring only 13 in total (3 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze.)

When you consider the Soviet Union claimed 125 and 99 medals in the respective Games, closely followed by East Germany and USA, it’s not great, is it? It’s true, USSR and the Eastern bloc countries adopted an odd interpretation of the word ’amateur,’ but that’s not necessarily the reason we performed so poorly in comparison.

No, it’s as I alluded to earlier – a lack of training facilities. That, and the sports being considered ‘minority interests’ by the powers that were.

To become the best at any sport, we now appreciate a sportsperson must start young. Back in ’72 and ’76 we simply didn’t have the opportunity to become good at the Olympic-recognised sports.

But we were good at Shove Ha’penny; at Marbles; at Skipping; at Chinese Ropes, and Hopscotch. We were brilliant at British Bulldogs (why is Kabaddi not an Olympic sport?) Dodge Ball and even Hide & Seek.

I can only think the Olympic Association missed a trick there.

Oh, how I’d have loved the opportunity to compete for a gold medal in Ring! Bang! Scoosh!

I could have been a contender, you know.

Last weekend I took a ride from downtown to Williamsburg in the southwest end of #Kitchener. I’m starting to appreciate the network effects of trail investments: when our downtown cycling grid connects with the citywide trail system, we get exponential growth in usefulness.

Linda suffered fatal injuries after being struck on her bicycle by a truck, and then by two additional vehicles, while biking in Salinas on March 14.

I've run a sweet training session a couple of days ago
It was on the time trial race machine, which makes it easy to run at these speeds. At this point in time the bike has a mountain steering setup which means it doesn't have the commandeurs and time trial handlebars, making the performance even more valuable.

So, I never did a proper #introduction because I am not in to those things, but after browsing the hashtag for few days I decided that maybe this is the time to make my own post.

So I am guy in 20's and mainly interested in #homebrewing #brewing and #cycling

More specifically I started brewing my own #beer when I was 15, because it was the easiest way to get alcohol at that time. It became my hobby, I moved to #cider only because I couldn't get decent one in store. And after that I worked in #craftbeer brewery.

We had another warm sunny day in Carterton. Wandered around the op shops & ate at Aunt Ginger’s Kitchen - yum! I was inspired by the cover on my friends’ daybed, made from tea towels. I plan to make one myself. There’s good quality linen in tea towels, available cheaply at op shops.

My Carterton friend is disabled & gets around on this very stylish e-tricycle 😍

Later we drove back over the hill to Te Whanganui a Tara.

I shamelessly stole that quote from a random post I saw on here. It perfectly captures my online existence and what I think about the current state of it.

I've been online since the mid 90's, usually through friends computers at first, before that I'd been tinkering with computers since I was about 12yrs old, from things like Commodore 64's & Amiga's as well as Atari ST's. I got my first PC with a modem in 98, I've been building my own PC's since 2000, but I'd been upgrading systems in some way since at least 91.

I remember the hope and promise it held and how that's been ripped away from everyone for lies, tracking, privacy invasion and a subscription to everything. If they could force you into a subscription service to breathe... they would.

I've been on Masto for 3yrs or so now. I deleted facebook in 2011, twitter in 2018 (not that I really ever used it) and shunned all others with the exception of G+ when that was good between 2011-2015.

Mastodon is my only social media platform now. I switched to beige.party because my previous instance went through a period of instability and was constantly down for a day or two at least 2 or 3 times a month.
