vulnerability-lookup 6.0 will be released this week with many (really, many!) new features.

One of the smaller, but important, additions is support for multiple SSVC views alongside CVSS. When SSVC information is available from an ADP (such as CISA) , or from additional sources such as GCVE, it is now displayed by default.

This allows users to more easily compare the different severity and prioritization assessments associated with a vulnerability.

I took the plunge today and ordered a @pine64eu PineNote. At least that is a device which is properly hackable. Yes, I'm fully aware that the user experience will not be like a fully finished product. But that's perfectly fine - simply because it is hackable.

From a research paper to running open-source code in just a few days.

We (with @cedric) have been experimenting in Vulnerability-Lookup with the concept of Local Exploit Hazard, based on the recent research paper “Modeling Local Exploit Hazard — A Bayesian Framework for Quantifying Exploit Risk and Operational Efficiency” by Stephen Shaffer and Laura Cristiana Voicu.

The idea addresses an important question in vulnerability management:

Not simply “How dangerous is this vulnerability globally?” but “How much exploitation risk does this vulnerability represent in my environment?”

Instead of introducing yet another static vulnerability score, the model starts from exploit likelihood such as EPSS and combines it with local security controls, CVSS attack vectors, vulnerability age and KEV policy to estimate an exploitation hazard.

We implemented an experimental version in Vulnerability-Lookup and connected it directly to operational workflows.

am I the only one annoyed by so frequent #GrapheneOS updates???

I am already pissed off one can not disable automatic download of updates, one can disable the updates app completely, but I would prefer to manually check for updates and review available update before downloading not to completely disable updates

then after applying updates it takes ages "optimizing apps" see this screenshot, only 8 optimized apps out of 35 and it has taken 19 minutes already and in the meantime the phone is very slow and overheated :(

The Radio Image Framing Protocol (RIFP) 1.0 is an experimental, extensible standard for sending images over low-rate radio links.

The default rifp-cpfsk-4800 profile uses binary continuous-phase FSK and can be deployed around 433.92 MHz where local regulation permits it. RIFP itself is not tied to 433 MHz or to FSK and can be used in any frequency bands.

I'm still exploring various low-cost options for a device that can receive and display images on an e-ink screen in emergency areas or similar environments.

For the sake of the argument, lets presume #agentic_development is the future, will replace humans writing code (almost) entirely.

When we then consider that currently tokens are highly subsidized by investors. Literally trillions a year.

And we see that even with that subsidy, prices are increasing rapidly. But that eventually, these subsidies will be removed and costs will be shifted to the people using the AI.

Then we can only conclude that in future, #softwaredevelopment becomes something for the wealthy only.

A few years ago, everyone with access to a computer and the will to learn, could write the Next Killer App, or get hired to write software. From girls living in a country where $100/month is a solid income, to guys living in the basement of their mom in a country where €2000/month is on the low end. Especially with #opensource goving free access to a solid foundation for everyone, worldwide.

But with the costs of unsubsidized agentic software development, that division will make software development much less accessible to people. When the daily bill for tokens is higher than the common monthly income in your country, it's inaccessible.

We often hear the story that now everyone can "make" software, with AI. Because the skills to write software are no longer a requirement. A barrier removed.
But the barrier isn't removed, it's replaced with a barrier of wealth. A barrier that anyone with a brain and will, could overcome, replaced by a barrier that is set by society and impossible to overcome for a vast majority of the people worldwide.

When I added the threat-actor @misp galaxy type on Mar 4, 2016, I didn’t expect that, years later, vendors would still invent new names for already known threat actors, avoid using UUIDs, reuse similar names for different actors, and create confusing names by mixing tools or software used by the actors.

That’s why we continue the tedious work of maintaining a proper threat-actor database, with relationships to other galaxies such as MITRE ATT&CK, Malpedia, and more.

After years of this monastic effort, we’re seeing the benefits—many open-source and proprietary tools now rely on the MISP galaxy, which serves as both an open standard and a public knowledge base.

The Radio Image Framing Protocol (RIFP) 1.0 is an experimental, extensible standard for sending images over low-rate radio links.

The default rifp-cpfsk-4800 profile uses binary continuous-phase FSK and can be deployed around 433.92 MHz where local regulation permits it. RIFP itself is not tied to 433 MHz or to FSK and can be used in any frequency bands.

We are exploring some ambitious ideas around reducing external dependencies and relying more on our own libraries across MISP and related tooling. Over the past year, we have been working on a replacement network graph library for the new MISP interface and things are getting really interesting. Pivotick is already used in around ten open-source tools, including CTI Transmute, AIL Project, and Rulezet. It has also recently been integrated into the new MISP UI, OverMind. The library is, of course, open source and comes with extensive documentation, including AI-parseable documentation to make integration easier. We have just released Pivotick v1.2.0.

We started rulezet project after identifying a clear gap in open source tooling for detection rules management: the ability to operate synchronised instances while still allowing each organisation to maintain its own autonomous rule repository.

Rulezet addresses this need as an open source platform for managing, sharing, and synchronising detection rules. Each organisation can run its own standalone instance and decide independently which other instances, communities, or repositories it wants to synchronise with.

The latest release reached a significant milestone to make it more operational for other DFIR tools.

Working on tempolocus, a tool that analyses time-series activity patterns to infer a user’s likely location.

In @ail_project, we work with a large volume of social-network time series. Estimating users’ locations from these patterns is often a manual task.

I prototyped a Python module that combines potential locations with yearly activity signals, such as vacation periods and public holidays. It is still at an early stage, but it is already producing promising results with weekly time series.

Ideas, feedback, and improvements are welcome. tempolocus is planned for integration into AIL Framework 7.1.

@jon I liked the early web of course. I think I first got dial-up Internet connection about 1998/1999.
I used Netscape and tried Opera when it used to have an ad bar. I used to use #KMart's Blue Light free dial-up service back when #NetZero was around. I started with a 28.8kbps modem. My mother had call waiting at the time so sometimes my connection would get interrupted which was fine. I bought Red Hat 5.2 for I think $12.

We'll be working together shaping the building up of the Democratic Tech Fund Below a list of the workshops and sessions we're part of (directly), while weaving connections with all people and communities working in solidarity towards a decent world, based on shared, democratic tech that works for our communities and not against us.

And since then, I've got a nonstop influx of people downloading the add-on, and it became the mosr starred one on my GitHub in just a matter of hours!

We started with 19 projects: cURL, Python, Sigstore, NATS, and more. 50 projects have now joined the initiative. Each get a dedicated team reviewing code, finding vulnerabilities, and writing patches.

I made an extension that bypasses online age verification

To show my stance towards online age verification, I made a small (literally, less than 10 kilobytes) add-on that will completely skip ageverif.net's verification prompt. (Only that site (for now?))

With more and more data breaches going on it's important to protect yourself by not sharing unnecessary data, and to show how broken some age verification platforms are!

After trying a few different #Mastodon front ends to #GotoSocial, I think #Tusky in #Android is best, followed by #elk for the desktop (elk runs in a #Docker container on a #RaspberryPi), then worst of all is any #iPadOS experience - #Icecubes works poorly - with GotoSocial #OpenSource #ActivityPub

I created Notebook RPG, a free minimal solo ttrpg meant to be played anywhere with only a pocket notebook, pencil, and one d6. Roguelike gameplay that moves as fast or slow as you want it to.

Hobbystycznie bawię się w #selfhosting, czyli staram się hostować samodzielnie co tylko mogę i na ile mi wystarcza na to czasu.

Jestem “adwokatem” #opensource, używam otwartych rozwiązań gdzie tylko mogę. Właściwie to na każdym urządzeniu, które posiadam w domu (szczegóły w profilu). Lubię eksperymentować ze wszystkim, pod co mogę się podpiąć i znam znaczenie słowa backup 😉

Moim największym wrogiem jest czas, a raczej jego deficyt, ale w miarę możliwości wracam zarówno na fedi jak i na swoje blogi.

W wolnych chwilach jak już uda mi się odkleić od ekranu, wciąga mnie dobra lektura. Poza tym lubię sporty zarówno zimowe jak i letnie, czyli góry i jeziora o każdej porze roku, odpowiednio z buta lub na desce, wpław lub na łyżwach.
