Europeans/EU Citizens!

Update on the EU Kids Act:

The EU Commission has opened up the submission form for feedback on the bill. Let them know how much you don't want this! Let them know how much harm this bill will do to civil rights and economic stability! It's better to try and fail then to roll over and take it!

ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-r

P.S. And as always, mail/call your MEPs and other relevant government officials!

Italian collective A/I shuts down after 25 years, after being added to the US sanctions list of foreign terrorist organizations, mainly due to the termination of their operating account with Italian bank "Banca Etica". An EU provider shuts down without having been formally accused of anything in any EU country, because the Trump administration decided they provide services to too many antifa movements.

Time for a reflection, for those who care.

Tor onion links provide greater anonymity to tor users than simply accessing the clearweb site through tor

And the more people use tor and tor onion addresses for uncontroversial browsing the easier it becomes for people to hide in the traffic when it can be a matter of life or death what websites you are accessing

Social media bans don't work. They just make things worse.

In Australia, for those teens who haven't bypassed the restrictions, their access to news has been curtailed.

How does this square with giving votes to 16 year olds in the UK? Children have rights to free expression too.

Please come back...

There are two stellar accounts that hurt a lot when they departed Mastodon for Bluesky in 2023, @Popehat and @emptywheel.

Both left due to frustration with what we now call HOA behavior, and in particular people demanding CWs for politics related posts.

Now, apparently Popehat has been banned on Bluesky. Don't know the details, but even if the ban is lifted, the key take away is that the ban hammer is being used on to censor users free expression.

Scientists now have the responsibility of "bearing witness and putting evidence on the table. It may not be persuasive to Russell Vought or Marco Rubio, but it is for the dossier, for the truth and reconciliation commission, for the Nuremberg trials that come after. Keep the receipts. Write down what you see. Tell them what they did. We’re very good at documenting how X leads to Y."

@evacide A hypothesis I haven't tested but think we can assume unless someone wants to do the necessary web archive scraping:

Every porn site that would ever follow "age verification" laws—every site subject to any of the applicable jurisdictions—already had meta tags for adult content before those laws were ever bills. Minimum adequate parenting of "digital native" children—thus minimally adequate implementation of device administrative access and parental controls—would already block every site that would ever comply with the laws.

Therefore (as @404mediaco have also predicted), relative to porn access, the only real effect of such online panopticon laws is to direct people away from sites subject to democratic jurisdictions, which at least attempt to lawfully moderate content, and towards sites outside such jurisdictions, which deliberately distribute CSAM and other sex trafficking and SA content.

Legislatively outsourcing parenting onto the porn sites thus increases harm to everyone such laws claim to seek to protect.

@alterelefant @mattsheffield Indeed. I made a new flag for America Rouge (my sarcastic name for the US regime) based on the style of the actual Khmer Rouge flag.

For the thought police of the Czech🇵🇭*) regime, EU🇪🇺 : this is meant as a criticism of Khmer Rouge and US regime, not their promotion.

I feel

e x t r e m e l y s t r o n g c o n t e m p t

towards the US regime when it behaves as authoritarian as it does.

I feel

e x t r e m e l y s t r o n g c o n t e m p t

I feel

e x t r e m e l y s t r o n g c o n t e m p t

towards the Czech🇵🇭*) regime when it IMO behaves like a thought police and makes it a crime to express certain ideas to the point that I am afraid when criticizing authoritarian regimes to the point that I add a disclaimer that this is meant as a criticism . (Maybe the Czech🇵🇭*) regime aims to make criticism of authoritarian regimes illegal by indirect means of chilling effect?)

*) It's actually Philippine flag and not Czech🇵🇭 flag. I use it because the Czech regime has another thoughtcrime regarding the Czech🇵🇭 flag so I use a similar looking flag which is provably not the Czech🇵🇭 flag, so that the Czech🇵🇭 regime cannot retaliate for criticism or dissent via lawfare. I also feel

e x t r e m e l y s t r o n g c o n t e m p t

towards the Czech🇵🇭 regime for this.

Labelling someone who disagrees with your opinion as ‘phobic’ is a kind of bullying*, not dissimilar to the strategy of labelling opponents of genocide in Gaza as ‘anti-semitic’. It’s an aggressive attempt to try to silence different opinions through intimidation.
[* and a very lazy interpretation of the word. People can disagree with you yet neither fear nor hate the object under discussion.]

After dinner last night, I had some extended thoughts on Columbia Professor Emeritus of Modern Arab Studies Rashid Khalidi's decision to cancel his scheduled course this fall at Columbia (anti) University, so I wrote up a journal/opinion piece.

Needless to say, I agreed with his decision and think more professors at compromised collaborator universities around the country should be joining him. But this episode also says a lot about the way Swine Emperor Trump is conducting his war to seize control of American cultural institutions in both the public and private sectors, and repurpose them as organs of fascist propaganda devoted to the cult of Trump/cracker ethnonationalism.

Journal: Courage, Cowardice, and Collaboration

"Still, if educators in America had either half a brain, or half a heart, a great many more university professors would be refusing to teach at institutions collaborating with a fascist regime to subvert truth, journalism, and scientific reality this fall. Professor Khalidi isn’t wrong when he points out that the suits running Columbia have allowed their university to be transformed into a militarized security zone, and a fascist propaganda machine that fundamentally inverts the role of educators in our society – an “anti-university” as the professor noted. Not only is it impossible for a genuine educator to function under those conditions, but even attempting to do so will likely result in open fascist collaboration with an increasingly Third Reich-esque Trump regime. Society has a term for people who only collaborated with the Third Reich to spread racist, eliminationist, antidemocratic propaganda for a paycheck; that term is “Nazi propagandists” and history doesn’t speak of them kindly."

Rashid Khalidi's recent stand against Columbia University's collaboration with Trump's fascist cultural agenda is important; more US educators should join him.

GTA III was temporarily removed from sale in Australia for re-rating due to the player's ability to collect a prostitute, who would sit in the car's passenger seat.
If the car then came to rest in a secluded area, it would begin to rock violently, implying sex, although both characters remain unmoving in their respective seats. 👩‍❤️‍👨

A censored version for Australia, removing this ability was thus released. 💔

Are you a US citizen who likes NSFW and/or queer content? Do you want to see that content be made well into the future? Do you not want banks deciding how you can spend your own money?

There's a bill that's going through the process right now that would stop MasterCard, Visa, and American Express from censoring things via financial strong-arming.

Even if you're not into this type of content, a set of banks having the power to control what you can or cannot purchase should be worrying, especially since all they need to do is threaten to take away the ways that platforms can make money.

Please call your elected representatives and let them know that you want to see this behavior stopped.

The fascist Trump Regime went prime time this week to manipulate the media and spread fascist propaganda while bringing in an unlikely ringer: Judge Jeanine. The Pork Reich can lie to us, threaten us, and try to gaslight the entire world, but they can't stop The Skinny.

ninaillingworth.com/2025/05/15

The Skinny: Media Manipulation & Regime Propaganda

"One of the hallmarks of the second Trump era is the way the Pork Reich consistently finds a way to make bad things, infinitely worse. For example, I don’t think anyone reading this would be surprised to hear me describe Fox News as an objectively fascist media organization, that is closely aligned with and prepared to lie to promote, Republican political objectives and GOP politicians. “Fox News lies for Republicans” was a pretty heady message in 1999, but it’s essentially a “well, duh” moment here in 2025. When you combine the power of the Fox Media apparatus with a Trump regime that approaches governance like a type of reality television show and actively sees control of media messaging as foundation to the success of their fascist project however, this unholy union creates something that roughly approximates “state news” in a dictatorship."

Cratering in the polls, and losing left right and center in court, the Trump regime spent this week scrambling to install a permanent fascist order before the peasants show up on the National Mall with pitchforks; and we wrote about it all in this week's The Skinny.

ninaillingworth.com/2025/05/07

The Skinny: Building A Patchwork Enabling Act

"I confess that on some level it’s probably amusing to picture Trump sitting in front of a TV and getting big mad when it tells him Black and trans people exist, he shouldn’t bully overweight people, and the abortion bans he facilitated are hurting American women. The reality here however is that in signaling what the president doesn’t want to see in publicly-funded media, he’s effectively articulating a Christian Nationalist agenda. As we’ve discussed numerous times on this blog, the regime is not just fighting a material war to install a fascist dictatorship in our society; they’re also fighting an authoritarian cultural war on our discourse, our history, and who is allowed to matter in our media entertainment complex. The ideological headcage Trump is trying to use state power to enforce here, is just as important to the Trumpenrich project to create a white ethnostate dictatorship under the Kelpto Kaiser, as its material expansion of the American fascist police state is."

I thought it was enough to be apolitical, invite everybody to be part of our development community, and that everybody would continue to keep politics out of the coding. Including even my own libertarian politics.
If I had known what was coming, I would have made a big deal about insisting that the open source community had to have one positive political value: free speech and opposition to censorship. That would have been justified on the object level, because we can't function when those political conditions are violated.” — @esrtweet (x.com) @esrtweet

The most effective form of is self adopted. The formula to get them to adopt it is simple:

1. Scare people about right wing extremists, conspiracy theorists, and disinformation.

2. Label any person or voice who speaks against the establishment as right wing, disinformation, conspiracy theorist etc.

Now you have people in self imposed information bubbles hearing only the establishment narrative.

Just a lil reminder that my feminism-and-other-progressive-activism video series Topless Topics is "constantly banned from every platform you've heard of and some you haven't,"

so if you'd like to help me try to convince new people (and someday far in the future, the platforms themselves) that enforcing different levels of censorship based on "what gender you look like" is absurd and blatantly sexist,

please consider widely sharing, reblogging, and posting your own reply content (or just shouting out my channel) to my own posts, to help me get out of the shadowban-void I'm constantly fighting against (when my content isn't banned outright, as happens almost daily)

I have to change social media accounts fairly often as they get banned (always and only for the heinous unforgiveable sin of "female nipples") but here they are as of me writing this post:

Lawrence W. Britt: 14 Characteristics of

[Unattributed, but based on the writings of ]

" studied the fascist regimes of (Germany), (Italy), (Spain), (Indonesia), and (Chile) and found they had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism.

1. Powerful and Continuing
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, and long incarcerations of prisoners.

3. Identification of / as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: , or ; ; ; , …

4. Supremacy of the
Even when there are widespread problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional roles are made more rigid. Opposition to is high, as is and anti- legislation.

6. Controlled
Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation or by sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Government and especially in war time, are very common.

7. Obsession with
Fear of hostile foreign powers is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.

9. Protection of Power
The and business of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Suppression of Power
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for and the
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with and
Under fascist regimes, the are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant and
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14.
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

This post is a summary of Fascism, Anyone? by Lawrence W. Britt published in 2003 by Free Inquiry magazine."

Here's an ancient video I made about in the r/politics forum announcing a publisher blacklist back in 2013.

Back then, they blocked almost two hundred news sites because of what they called "bad journalism". Whereupon they banned sites that had just won the Polk Award. And another that had just won a Pulitzer.

But of course, untrained mods know better than professionals working the field. (assholes)
